what we hold, what we don't, what you can ask for.
last updated April 24, 2026 — version 1.0
This is our privacy policy. It's written in plain language because we want you to actually read it.
Tessakin is a community, education, and dating hub for people with many loves. That means some of what you share with us — quiz answers, profile details, posts in private spaces — is genuinely sensitive. We take that seriously. This document tells you what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with (mostly: no one), and what rights you have.
If you have a question this document doesn't answer, email privacy@tessakin.com. A real person will respond.
Legal review needed: privacy@tessakin.com may need to be a dedicated inbox with documented response times; confirm obligation under CCPA/GDPR.
What we collect
Information you give us directly
- —Account basics: email address, password (encrypted, never stored in plaintext), display name
- —Profile information: pronouns, bio, “looking to think about” text, location if you provide it, archetype visibility settings
- —Quiz answers: all responses you provide to the archetype quiz, including optional overlays if you opt into them
- —Community content: posts, threads, replies, reactions, who you follow, which spaces you join
- —Direct messages: message content, sender, recipient, timestamp
- —Uploaded content: any images or files you add to posts, your profile, or messages
- —Communication with us: emails to support, moderation-related messages, feedback
Information we collect automatically
- —Technical data: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, time zone
- —Usage data: pages visited, features used, time spent, click paths
- —Sign-in records: timestamps of sign-ins and sign-outs, device identifiers for “new device” alerts
Information from third parties
Google OAuth users: when you sign in with Google, Google shares your email address and name with us. We do not request any other Google account information.
Legal review needed: Confirm OAuth data collection matches Google's disclosure requirements and our stated scope.
How we use this information
- —To run the platform — authenticating your account, delivering content, keeping the community functional
- —To provide your quiz results — computing your archetype, showing your dimension profile, generating share cards
- —To personalize your experience — recommending spaces based on your archetype, surfacing relevant content in your feed
- —To communicate with you — transactional emails (verification, password resets, moderation notices), email notifications you've opted into, early-access emails you've requested
- —To keep the community safe — reviewing reports, investigating violations, preventing abuse
- —To improve Tessakin — understanding how the platform is used, identifying bugs, shaping future features
We use aggregated, de-identified data for internal analytics. We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not use your data to train third-party AI models.
Legal review needed: The "no data training" statement should be confirmed against actual practices, including any analytics vendors that might use customer data for their own model improvement.
Who we share it with
Other members — the parts you've chosen to make visible
Your profile, your public posts, your display name, your archetype (if you've chosen to display it), and your activity in public spaces are visible to other Tessakin members. Your privacy settings (see /account/settings) control this.
Service providers we use to run the platform
These companies process data on our behalf and cannot use it for any other purpose:
- —[Hosting provider] — infrastructure and storage
- —[Email service provider] — sending transactional emails
- —[Analytics provider, if used] — aggregated platform analytics
- —Google — for OAuth sign-in (for members who chose Google sign-in)
Legal review needed: Actual provider names and data processor agreements need to be confirmed. Some jurisdictions require naming specific processors.
Legal compliance
If we receive a legally valid request from law enforcement or a court, we may disclose information to the extent required by law. We will challenge overbroad or inappropriate requests where we believe we have grounds. We will notify you of such a request unless we are legally prohibited from doing so.
Safety emergencies
If we believe someone is in imminent danger, we may share information with emergency services or the person at risk. This is a last-resort provision and we document every invocation internally.
Business changes
If Tessakin is ever acquired, merged, or reorganized, your data may transfer to the successor entity. That entity would be bound by this privacy policy (or notify you of changes with the opportunity to delete your data first).
Legal review needed: Business-transfer clauses have specific required language in several jurisdictions.
Your rights
Access
You can see everything we have about you. From your account settings, you can request a full export of your data in a standard format (JSON). We'll email you a download link within 24 hours.
Correction
You can correct any information on your profile at any time. For anything else (like quiz answers), contact us and we'll help.
Deletion / leaving
You can step back (temporary, reversible) or leave Tessakin (permanent, with 14-day cooldown) at any time from your account settings. When you leave, we delete your profile, posts, quiz results, and everything else tied to you. Some information is retained for specific reasons — see “What we keep” below.
Opt-outs
You can control all non-essential emails from your notification settings. Moderation notices cannot be turned off, because enforcement decisions require visibility.
For California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
Legal review needed: Full CCPA addendum needed — including "Do Not Sell" equivalent, financial incentive disclosures if applicable, and authorized-agent request procedures.
For EU residents (GDPR)
Legal review needed: Full GDPR addendum needed — including lawful bases for each processing purpose, data protection officer contact, supervisory authority contact information, and data subject rights procedures.
What we keep after you leave
- —Moderation logs — if an account was suspended or closed for violations, basic logs of the action are retained for 6 months, with personal details redacted.
- —Financial records — if any transaction occurs, records are retained as required by tax and accounting law.
- —Backups — routine system backups contain your data until the backup cycle clears it, typically within 30 days.
- —Aggregate / de-identified data — statistics that cannot be traced back to you are retained indefinitely.
Legal review needed: Retention schedules should be reviewed against sector norms and jurisdictional requirements.
Cookies and tracking
We use cookies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand how the platform is used. We do not use cookies to track you across the web, and we do not use third-party advertising cookies.
Legal review needed: Cookie disclosure requirements vary significantly by jurisdiction (EU ePrivacy, California, etc.) and typically require a cookie banner with specific consent mechanics for non-essential cookies.
Security
We take security seriously. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms. Data in transit is encrypted via TLS. Data at rest is encrypted on our servers. We follow standard security practices for access control, audit logging, and incident response.
No system is perfectly secure, and we won't pretend ours is. If we ever experience a breach that might expose your data, we'll notify affected users within the timeframe required by applicable law — and we'll tell you what happened, what we're doing about it, and what you can do to protect yourself.
Legal review needed: Breach notification obligations vary by jurisdiction and data type. Specific timelines and content requirements need confirmation.
Children and minors
Tessakin is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we discover that we have, we delete it immediately and close the account.
If you believe a minor has created an account on Tessakin, please tell us at hello@tessakin.com.
Legal review needed: COPPA does not apply for 18+ platforms but other youth-protection obligations may. Also need confirmation of age-verification standard — checkbox alone may be insufficient in some jurisdictions.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy as Tessakin grows and as law evolves. When we make material changes, we'll tell you — by email if it's significant, and always by updating the “last updated” date at the top.
If we ever change what we do with your data in a way that wouldn't be covered by the original purpose you gave it to us for, we'll ask your permission again before doing it.
Contact
Questions, concerns, or privacy-specific requests: privacy@tessakin.com
Legal review needed: Some jurisdictions require specific contact designations — data protection officer, privacy officer, etc. — depending on platform size and data sensitivity.
